Fall/Winter Recreation & USA Swim Teams
NOTICE: Pre-Season Screening has been moved to Addison Pool on August 25th beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The Fall/Winter Recreation Swim Teams consist of 7 different practice groups that are both age and skill based. Recreation meets will be held with area teams through early February, concluding with Championships. USA Swimming program is an additional option for for swimmers who may want additional meets in the USA swimming format. Those interested in USA Swimming must also be on the Fall/Winter Recreation Team.
Below are the practice groups. The day and times listed are NOT the final practice times. Finalized times will be emailed before the start of the season.
To participate on the team swimmers must compete in three meets to be eligible for championships.
Coaches reserve the right to move kids between practice groups at their discretion and at the best interest of the swimmer.
Practices will start September 21.
Intro to Swim Team *NEW* (Registration begins on Tuesday, August 11th at 8:00 a.m.)
A perfect fit for those looking to take the next step and explore the swim team program. Swimmers will learn freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, as well as technical fundamentals. Must be comfortable swimming in water 12’ deep and, at maximum, 800 yards. Must have passed Level 4 of swim lessons. No meet or practice requirement.
Practice Groups (Registration begins on Thursday, August 27th at 8:00 a.m.)
Developmental
Generally ages 7-10. Must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle with head in the water and rotary breathing without stopping and swim 25 yards backstroke; demonstrate fundamental breaststroke or butterfly for 25 yards. Estimated practice is Monday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons.
Junior 1 & Junior 2
Generally ages 9-12. Junior 1 swimmers must perform all four competitive stokes for 25 yards and swim continuously for 300 yards and practice continuously for up to 1.75 hours. Junior 2 swimmers must perform all four competitive stokes for 50 yards and swim continuously for 300 yards and practice continuously for up to 2 hours. Estimated practice is on Wednesday, Saturday Sunday at GHS Pool and Tuesday/Thursday at Trinity College Pool.
Seniors
Generally ages 13 & up. Must be able to perform all four competitive strokes for 100 yards, swim continuously for 600 yards and practice at a high level for 2 hours. Estimated practice is Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday at the GHS Pool and Monday & Wednesday at the Trinity College Pool.
High Schools Girls
Girls competing on the fall high school team and will compete on the recreation team at the completion of their high school season. Practice with the Senior group or at coaches discretion.
High School Girls 2
Girls competing on the high school team and will compete on recreation and USA teams until the completion of of the high school season. Additional meets after the high school season starts will depend on high school schedule and CIACC restrictions. Fee includes prorated recreation and USA Short Course fee (below) fee combined.
High School Boys 1
Boys competing on the high school team and will compete on recreation team until the start of the high school season. Practice with the Senior group or at coaches discretion.
High School Boys 3
Boys competing on the high school team and will compete on recreation and USA teams until the start of the high school season. Additional meets after the high school season starts will depend on high school schedule and CIACC restrictions. Fee includes prorated recreation and USA Short Course fee (below) fee combined.
USA Short Course Swimming
This is optional to any swimmer on the Recreation Swim Team that has signed up or one of the practice groups. Recreation meets still required as well. Swimmers will also need to pay the USA Fee of $85/swimmer plus additional meet fees. (Fees to the Town only pays for coaches to attend USA Meets).
USA swimming membership dues will be handled separately as well as USA meet fees. Both will be coordinated by the GSPO (Glastonbury Swim Parents Organization)
USA Short Course Payment: A deposit of $25.00 is required at the time of registration with the remainder of the balance due by October 5th. A late fee of $10.00 will be added onto the overall fee on October 6th.
