For those interested in participating in the summer child swim lesson program, but do not know what level the child belongs, we can help!A free clinic for children ages 5 and up is being offered on Saturday, March 21st at the Glastonbury High School pool. Instructors will be on site to help determine the best swim level your child belongs.3 times slots are available to choose from:12:30 p.m.; 12:50 p.m.; 1:10 p.m.Please come ready to get in the water. The Parks and Recreation Department follows the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program. Lessons are for all ages. It's a progressive program with 6 levels, each with specific skill requirements. *If your child has taken lessons with us previously, please reference their most recent Achievement Card for the appropriate level. If not, please reference the American Red Cross Swim & Water Safety Level Requirements to choose the appropriate level based on their skills. American Red Cross Swim & Water Safety Level RequirementsPlease make sure your child(ren) is in their swimwear and are ready to go at the start of the lesson. Changing facilities are available to use at the pool.Parent/Child Swim ClassesInfant/Toddler: Ages 6 months-3 years with a parent/guardian in the water. Tots: Ages 3 and 4 years with parents; parents work with their children to learn breath control, submerging in the water, buoyancy/floating on the water; and moving through the water on their front and back.Child-Only Swim ClassesLearn to Swim Program for Levels 1-6This program features an inclusive approach to teaching swimming and water safety together.To enter level 1 children must be at least 5 years old. To move to the next level students must successfully complete the exit skills for each level before progressing to the next level. An Achievement Card will be given at the end of each session with level recommendations for future classes. All levels include water safety discussions and skills. Jump on in the High School Pool for an egg-citing time! Join us for the fourth annual Egg-a-Pool-Looza event for ages 3-13 years old. Activities include the aquatic egg hunt, face painting, prizes, pictures with the bunny, and more. Pre-registration is required for all participants. Parents do not need to register! U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets must be worn in the water for those who do not know how to swim, and parents must be in the water with their children if they are unable to swim. Parents must be in the water with their children for the 3-4 yr old and 5-6 yr old waves. Children aged 3-8 will be restricted to the shallow end of the pool, and 9-13-year old’s able to swim between the deep end and the shallow end.
